Healthy eating: Five simple steps to get you started

CheqUp believes weight loss is a positive journey and encourages people to consider their nutrition and physical activity. While there is no one-size-fits-all approach, they provide five simple tips for nutritional control.

At CheqUp we believe that weight loss is a positive journey undertaken by people committed to making it work. As part of the CheqUp weight loss programme we encourage people to look at all aspects of their lives - particularly their nutrition intake and physical activity.

When it comes to nutrition there is no “one size fits all” approach. As each person is unique, you will need to develop the right nutritional intake which works for you.

However, there are some core things which everyone can do. So, here are CheqUp’s five simple tips to give you nutritional control:

1. Control your portion size

Weight loss medication works by suppressing your hunger and results in you eating less. This means that over time you will have a calorie deficit and will lose weight.

If you continue to eat the same amount then it will be more difficult for you to lose weight!

2. Listen to your body - only eat when you are physically hungry

Eating in the absence of physical hunger is one of the biggest drivers of weight gain. This is known as emotional hunger. So, listen to what your body is telling you and don’t eat if you’re not hungry.

3. Eat smaller amounts

One of the easiest ways to control your food intake and to ensure that you are getting the benefit of the medication is to put less on your plate. It sounds simple, but try putting half the amount of food on your plate first. If you’re still hungry, just add a small amount more. Slowly develop this food habit.

4. Be happy to leave food on your plate

This can be a huge issue for some people. But remember that weight loss medication mimics the way our bodies work and convinces us that we are sated - in other words, we “feel full”. If you reach the point during the meal when you are no longer hungry just put your knife and fork together and push your plate away. It can be a liberating experience

5. Don’t shop when you’re hungry

We’ve all done it - gone to the supermarket when we’re hungry and come home with a bag of expensive, high calorie food. Think carefully about WHAT you need to buy (make a list and only buy what you need) and WHEN you’re going to buy it. Planning ahead is key to improving your weight loss results.
